The new water supply network in the restricted area bounded by the streets “Myslym Keta”, “Shefqet Kuka” and “Thoma Filipeu” benefits 12,000 residents.

The Municipality of Tirana and the Water Supply and Sewerage Company (UKT) have started the implementation of another important project, which aims to replace all the outdated pipelines in order to avoid water losses in the network, as well as to provide citizens with better quality and standards. Part of this project is also the intervention in replacing the entire main pipeline from “Todi Shkurti” road to the Pedestrian Street in front of the Parliament building, a segment that has always caused problems in water flow on the road. The works have continued even late at night to ensure their completion as soon as possible, in order to avoid various obstacles for traffic and water supply to citizens.

The works were also monitored by the Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, the PS deputy, Besnik Bare, and the director of UKT, Redi Molla. After being briefed on the details of the project and the work being carried out, Veliaj emphasized the daily commitment of the municipality to make investments that bring improvement to services and living conditions, while seeking citizens’ understanding for the problems that may arise during the implementation of the works.

“1 year ago, we promised a municipality that works in 3 shifts. I know that every time something is built, every time an investment is made, it certainly has an impact on traffic, on the way traffic flows in the city. But, every time we fix the living room, the sitting room or the bedroom, the house is paralyzed on those days when there are renovations at home. Tirana is our big home, which means that every time there is work, understanding is required. What we promise and what we are committed to now, even in the middle of the night, is that we will work in 3 shifts, so that the work is completed as soon as possible, but we cannot ask for a modern Tirana if we do not make these investments,” said Veliaj.

He emphasized that the work on the sewerage system in the segment that starts from Xhamia e Tabakëve up to the road in front of the Parliament is expected to be completed within 12 days. “We have also chosen this axis that crosses through the middle of Tirana, starting from Xhamia e Tabakëve, the Ballet School road, crosses LANA and then continues on the road to the Parliament. Even in Parliament, people were walking with boots due to water, which flooded the entire territory three times a day. We are doing all these works in 3 shifts. In 6 days we have done almost half the work, 6 more days to finish,” said the mayor. Veliaj stated that the same pace will be maintained for every work in the capital, and emphasized that during this year there will be many construction sites open at the same time so that we can have a more modern Tirana tomorrow.”

“We will work at the same pace on the new Boulevard, as well as at Skanderbeg Square. Indeed, this will be a year when Tirana will fully open up, but to ensure that the work is done properly and the city not only has better drinking water supply and modern infrastructure, but also becomes a city that increasingly belongs to its people. Tirana did not know work before, let alone work with three shifts. The city with 1 million inhabitants needs a municipality that is at least working in three shifts,” emphasized Veliaj. The Mayor added that during the second year of this term, the focus will continue on rural areas and main axes in the city.

“The second year will have a greater focus on rural areas, on some of the main axes. For example, the one that connects the national road Tirana – Elbasan with our unit in Krraba, with some villages of the unit in Peza, with some villages of our unit in Ndroq, in Kashar, in Zall-Herr and in Zallbastar. I believe that we will show them how with the same zeal that we completed the parks and gardens, schools will continue to be built, work will be done in the center, and the same will be done in the suburbs,” Veliaj declared. The Mayor asked for the understanding of citizens for the problems that may arise from work on different road segments.

The MP Besnik Bare praised the engagement of the Municipality of Tirana in solving any issue in the city. “For almost 5 years, when we came to the Parliament, we would wear boots because we thought that if this happened in front of the Parliament, what could happen in the periphery? However, thanks to the contribution and commitment of the Municipality, you see that the Municipality works 24 hours, this problem has been solved, and we are really convinced that such similar problems will be gradually resolved. I would like to congratulate the Municipality for the work it is doing,” he said.

To completely avoid intermittent losses, UKT is carrying out a complete reconstruction of the old pipelines from Todi Shkurti Street to Pedonalja. In total, about 1500 meters of linear main pipeline and nearly 350 meters of linear distribution network will be laid, covering an area of 150 hectares. Thanks to this investment, residents living in the center of Tirana, the area bordered by “Bajram Curri” Boulevard, “Muhamet Gjollesha” Street and “Durrës” Road, will benefit from an improved service of drinking water supply. Additionally, the reconstruction of the network will also increase the water supply pressure for the entire area affected by the above-mentioned roads.
